Conditions of Jurgenson Competition


The competition is held for the following nominations:

The duration must be not more than 15 minutes.

The instrumentation of soloist ensemble must not exceede: 1 flute (doubling piccolo and alto), 1 oboe (also English horn), 1 clarinet (bass-clarinet), 1 bassoon, 1 French horn, 1 trumpet, 1 trombone, percussion (2 performers), 1 piano, 1 harp, 2 violins, 1 viola, 1 violoncello, 1 double-bass.

The instruments in the score for ensemble of percussion instruments should be grouped by performers.

The competition will have two rounds. No more than ten participants will be selected to proceed to the second round. The allocation of prizes will take place after the second round on the basis of the performance of works by the ensemble of soloists Studio for New Music and the Percussion Ensemble of Mark Pekarsky.

The work must not have been published or had an official performance before the closing date of the competition.

The competition is open to composers, who are not born earlier than April 15, 1977.

Each author may take a part not more, than in two nominatons.

The organizing committee reserves the right to exclude any works that do not conform to the regulations of the Competition.

The jury reserves the right to: award special prizes, divide prizes between participants, not award all diplomas or prizes, not award the Grand-Prix.

A member of the jury will not participate in the scoring in the case that the particular composer under assessment is their own student.

The compositions of the finalists will be performed in the Rachmaninoff Hall of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatoire by the “Studio for New Music Ensemble” of soloists and “Mark Pekarsky’s Percussion Ensemble”.

Winners of competition, who will receive the first prize for each nomination will be conferred with the title “Laureate” and be presented with a Diploma.

Participants of the Competition winning the second and third places will be conferred with the title “Diplomant” and be presented with a Diploma.

The organising committee of the P.I. Jurgenson International Competition for Young Composers announce the following prizes:

A Grand-Prix—60000 rubles;
The First Prize—30000 rubles for each nomination.

The sponsors, governmental and public organizations allied with the Competition, may, upon agreement of the organizing committee, establish other special prizes for participants.

Prize-winning works by laureates of the Competition will be published by the P.I.Jurgenson Charity Foundation in the series “Music of the Third Millennium”.
